The school band — an enhancement to any school experience.

A school band is a showcase of pride for the whole school. It is an organization that performs concerts and participates in school activities such as pep rallies, and graduation ceremonies. It also prepares the students for high school. Many high school bands require a student to have previous experience. Northeastern Music programs will prepare your students with the proper music fundamentals so when they enter high school they will make an important contribution to the high school band.

An alternative to sports.

Not all students are capable of participating in school sports, but any student with the desire to play an instrument may play in the school band. This gives each student a chance to be part of an organization that contributes to school pride while making new friends in an organized school activity.

No cost to the school.

There is absolutely no cost to the school for a band program. Parents pay tuition for lessons directly to the band program. All music and stands are provided by the program. Students needing instruments will be offered inexpensive rentals through local music stores. The school needs only to provide a place for lessons and band rehearsals.

How the band program works.

The students are placed, by instrument and ability, into groups of 2-8 pupils. Weekly lessons are conducted during the day on a rotating basis so that a student will not miss the same class more than once during a period of several months. (Example: if a student has a 9:00am lesson, it will be at 9:30 the following week, etc.)

Eligibility and progress reports.

All students in grades four and above may participate in the NMP program at their school. Students who wish to participate in the program must maintain a passing grade in all other school subjects in order to continue their participation. The NMP program is also a graded program, so parents will be kept abreast of their child's progress. Music report cards are given out at the same time that school report cards are issued.

Music:
A vital facet of a complete education.

Whether you are looking to start or enhance a musical program in your school, with Northeastern Music Programs, Inc. you can improve the overall quality of learning experience for your students, while providing opportunities for specific skill development. For example, research shows that children exposed to music tend to do better on standardized tests. And a Gallup survey revealed that 90% of respondents agreed that music should be part of a well-rounded education, 89% believe that music helps a child's development, and 97% agree that playing a musical instrument can help young people channel their energy in a creative way.

"Hidden" values of music education.

A variety of research has shown the benefits of music education above and beyond the obvious values of the artistic experience.

In a University of California study, music lessons were shown to improve a child's performance in school. The results revealed that music students had a 30% increase in spatial-temporal skills above the other groups. This suggests that the study of music produces long term modifications to the underlying circuitry of the brain that is not primarily concerned with music.

A research team studying first-graders from two Rhode Island schools found that students who participated in an "enriched, sequential skill-building music program" dramatically increased their reading and math performance.

Students with coursework/experience in music performance scored 52 points higher on the verbal portion of the SAT and 36 points higher on the math portion of the SAT than students with no course work or experience in the arts, for a combined total of 88 points higher.

Northeastern Music Programs, Inc.
Bringing the benefits of music education to students for 20 years.

Northeastern Music Programs, Inc. is an organization that provides general music and band programs to private and parochial schools. Our music programs become part of a school's well-rounded curriculum and add to the educational value of the school. Our band program includes group instrumental lessons as well as the formation of a band to perform for school assemblies, Mass, chapel, community and school concerts, etc. The band becomes a school activity that helps develop discipline and pride within the school.

General Music Education

  • A general music program becomes part of your school curriculum.
  • Students have a very enjoyable class while learning about music.
  • During the music lesson, the classroom teacher's attention is not necessary. This time may be used as an additional prep time.
  • Your school may pay Northeastern Music Programs, Inc. in one of three methods: monthly, semi-annually (Sept. & Jan.) or annually.
Instrumental Band Music Programs
  • Our band programs are designed to rotate around the academic subjects for the convenience of the school and its teachers.
  • The instrumental band music program is essentially free to the school. Parents pay tuition for lessons directly to the band program.
  • The band performs for school assemblies, chapel services, Mass, school concerts, and community concerts.
  • After the first year, there is a beginner and an advanced band.
  • The band builds pride in the school.
Teacher Qualifications and Considerations
We take full responsibility for our teachers. Your school will be provided with a teacher who holds at least a Bachelor of Music degree, and who is certified by the State to teach music in schools. The teacher will also be supervised by an experienced music administrator.

In addition, Northeastern Music Programs, Inc. will pay all taxes, workman's compensation, benefits, and complete all related paperwork. We also carry our own liability insurance. The school is "held blameless" from any actions of our employees.

All our instructors are checked for criminal and child abuse backgrounds. No person will be allowed to teach if either report shows criminal or child abuse history.

There is no obligation to keep the teacher until the end of the school year. Because we include a probation clause in each teacher's contract, we may dismiss an instructor within the first six months of employment at the employer's discretion.
